Tones and seasons

    The marking of dots for checked tones follows the same rule
    as level, rising, and departing tones. These tones
    metaphorically correspond to the four seasons:
    Level tone is calm and gentle, like spring, when all things
    slowly bloom.
    Rising tone is bright and energetic, like summer, when
    nature flourishes and grows dense.
    Departing tone is strong and determined, like autumn,
    when all things ripen and reach completion.
    Checked tone is fast and abrupt, like winter, when all
    things retreat and enter dormancy.
