Initial consonants: ㄱ ㄴ ㅁ ㅅ ㅇ


    There are 17 initial consonants in total.
    These are the root sounds from which the others are derived:
    ㄱ (Geu-iG or Geu) is shaped after the root of the tongue
    blocking the throat, representing a molar(velar) sound.
    ㄴ(Neu-iN) is modeled after the tongue touching the upper
    gums, representing a tongue(alveolar) sound.
    ㅁ (Meu-iM) imitates the shape of the lips, symbolizing a lip
    (labial) sound.
    ㅅ(Seu-iS) is designed after the shape of the teeth,
    representing a teeth(sibilant) sound.
    ㅇ(◌eu-i◌) represents the shape of the throat, symbolizing
    a throat(glottal) sound.
    ㄱ and ㄴ (Geu and Neu) are shaped to represent the
    movement of the speech organs as they produce sound.
    ㅁ ㅅ ㅇ (Meu Seu ◌eu) are modeled after the static shape
    of the speech organs as the sound is produced.
