    The current order of ㅣ and ㅡ follows the original vowel
    sequence in Jeongeum, where ㅡ comes first after ㆍ. The
    pronunciation of ㄱ as Geu is a natural phenomenon, so the
    name is derived accordingly.
    Background for the New Naming Method Using ㅡ and ㅣ
    There are three main reasons for suggesting new names
    based on the combination of ㅡ and ㅣ.
    When people naturally pronounce the consonant ㄱ, it is
    more often pronounced as Geu rather than Gi. Naming ㄱ as
    Geu follows the intuitive pronunciation and makes it easier
    to learn. This allows the phonetic value to be grasped
    naturally without needing to memorize it separately. Even
    when representing ㄱ phonetically in English as Geu[k], it
    aligns with Geu.
    If the vowel order is corrected to follow the original
    sequence from Hunminjeongeum (ㆍ ㅡ ㅣ ㅗ ㅏ ㅜ ㅓ ㅛ ㅑ
    ㅠ ㅕ), the currently used vowels ㅡ and ㅣ appear first. By
    using these two base characters in consonant naming,
    learners can naturally familiarize themselves with the
    foundational vowel order.
