Ohaeng (the Five Elements) can become obstacles even
    before the concepts are understood, simply because of the
    Chinese characters themselves.
    These concepts are part of our long-standing philosophical
    heritage. However, just because the terminology is in Chinese
    characters, it often creates the false perception that its origins
    are Chinese. The term Yin-Yang and the Five Elements can
    also evoke stereotypes related to fortune-telling,
    numerology, divination, or shamanism, which can obstruct a
    deeper understanding of the spirit of Hunminjeongeum.
    Therefore, it is necessary to translate these key ideas into
    Korean and reinterpret them for modern understanding.
    Hasattang Balk-I-Eo Daum is a Korean expression intended
    to reduce the linguistic burden and enable a more familiar
    and accurate understanding of the cosmic principles
    embraced in Hunminjeongeum.
